Boeing Company Awards Two Grants to Parents as Teachers National Center to Improve Support to Families Living in the Metro St. Louis Area and Military
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) February 27, 2008 -- The Boeing Company has awarded two grants to Parents as Teachers National Center, an award-winning parent education program serving families with children from birth to age 5. The two grants, totaling $52,307, will expand efforts to serve diverse populations, including military families, in and around Missouri. Among other things, Parents as Teachers services involve sharing information with parents about child development, ways to promote school readiness, and provide developmental and health screenings.
A $34,290 grant will help expand services to diverse families in the St. Louis region. The award will be used to train Parents as Teachers parent educators to deliver parenting support in culturally sensitive ways. This program will improve Parents as Teachers services to culturally diverse families.
Another $18,017 grant will support Parents as Teachers Heroes at Home programs located at two military installations in Missouri -- Fort Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base. As part of its Heroes at Home program, Parents as Teachers National Center customized its flagship child development curriculum to directly address the unique parenting challenges facing young military families including reunification, deployment and frequent relocation. Parents as Teachers parent educators located near the two sites have been trained to provide this specialized service.
"Parents as Teachers recognizes the special circumstances and needs these families face," said Susan Stepleton, president and CEO of Parents as Teachers National Center. "We are grateful that Boeing has provided additional funding so we can continue to reach out and support a variety of families."
In 2007, The Boeing Company contributed $48.55 million to community organizations. Boeing is the world's largest manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft, and is the United State's largest aircraft exporter.
